About Bricks Without Clay
Me
My name is Dan Kurtz. I live in Toronto, where I pursue a Masters in Information Studies at UofT and work part-time developing Drupal sites at Trellon. My B.A. is from Cal: Cognitive Science with an emphasis in computational modelling (think artificial intelligence).
I’m interested in technology (obviously), but I also spent 2 1/2 years as a research associate at the Rockridge Institute, which gave rise to an interest in politics and political discourse. I’ve combined the two in various ways, such as serving a term as Technical Chair for the San Francisco Young Democrats.
This site
This site is built on Wordpress, an excellent open-source blogging system. The theme is a modified version of the nolimits theme from wpthemes.info. I’ve made my modifications available as the Bricks Without Clay Wordpress theme. The photo I used for the theme is from Dave Anastasi’s East 3rd site–one of the best photoblogs I’ve come across. His photos are licensed under Creative Commons. The photo is some sort of scotch in a glass (I’m a Bushmills man myself).
DreamHost is my host. They run a good shop.
Basically, this whole blog is open-source software, top to bottom. I bet it looks crappy in Internet Explorer, because I hardly ever come into contact with a Windows machine anymore, so I don’t get to test it. Use FireFox instead.
